NITs are autonomous institutes under the Central Government of India for technical and research studies. Previously, NIT was famously known as Regional Engineering College (REC). Through the NIT Act 2007, these were later recognized as Institute of National Importance (INI). There are 31 NITs across India that are listed and are among top-ranked institutes in technology. NITs take admission for their Engineering Courses through JEE Main Exam scores. NTA will release JEE Main Answer Keys tentatively by 2nd week of September after the exams are over. The JEE Main Answer Keys for January session is already released.

What are JEE Main Answer Keys?
JEE Main Scores are vital to take admission to NITs and qualify for JEE Advanced to apply for IITs. After the exams, JEE Main Answer Keys for the April 2020 session will be released by NTA.
JEE Main Answer keys can be challenged by the candidates within a given period of time. One can visit the official website with their credentials and submit the challenge(s) by paying a 1000 INR as processing fees. On finding the challenges to be correct then the processing fee will be refunded to the candidates.
The evaluation process of all the MCQs for B.E / B.Tech, B.Arch & B.Planning papers will be based on the final JEE Main Answer Keys. The raw marks obtained will be used for further calculations.
How to calculate your score using JEE Main Answer Keys?
- After viewing the JEE Main answer keys and OMR sheet or JEE Main Response sheet, candidates can cross-check their answers with those given in the answer key.
- For one correct answer, 4 marks will be awarded to the candidates.
- For every wrong answer, 1 mark will be deducted.
- Based on this marking scheme, candidates can calculate and get a rough idea of JEE Main scores.
JEE Main 2020 Important Dates
Issue of admit cards will be by 15th Aug 2020. JEE Main 2020 Exam date will tentatively happen between 1st Sep 2020 to 6th Sep 2020, the timing of the exam will be in 2 shifts 9:30 am to 12:30 pm & 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The result and release date of the JEE Main answer keys will be notified soon.
How and who can apply for NITs?
NIT provides courses in Technology, Science, and Management. Students can plan their careers as early as from class 10 or 11. The basic eligibility for a bachelor’s degree in engineering is the passing marks in class 12 with subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. After that NIT takes admission through the Joint Entrance Exam Main (JEE Main). The JEE Main Answer keys can give the candidates a rough idea on JEE Main Scores which will be required for admission to NITs.
The previous eligibility criteria stated that – A candidate should have secured 75% marks in class 12 or should be in the top 20 percentile for general category. And, 65% marks in class 12 or figure in the top 20 percentile for the SC/ST category. However due to COVID-19, The Central Seat Allocation Board has relaxed the eligibility criterion for applying for NITs. The students who have qualified the JEE Main examination can apply with passing marks in class 12.
JOSAA or the Joint Seat Allocation Authority organizes and manages the counseling and seat allotment for these institutions. Based on the scores and ranks, students will be called for counseling. Admissions to B.Tech programs at NITs are taken care of by JoSAA Counseling process on the basis of ranks secured in JEE Main and also the candidate’s scores obtained in 12th exam. During the counseling session, each NIT will release their individual cut offs in the form of Opening and Closing Ranks after the conclusion of each round.
Please Note – Only the top 2.5 lakh students in the JEE Main will qualify to apply for the JEE Advanced to apply to IITs various engineering programs.
Number of Seats, Average Course Fees and Placements at NITs
There are a total of 31 NITs in the country. The total number of seats are 17868 for admission to Undergraduate Engineering programs at all NITs. After the JEE Main Exams, the JEE Main Answer Keys will be released. If the students are not satisfied they can challenge the Answer Keys. After the release of JEE Main Results,an aspirant can check where they stand and figure out an institute accordingly which is best suited for them.
- The average course fees at top 10 NITs are between 53,797 INR and 180,000 INR for the 1st year.
- The average annual placements with top NITs are 5 to 8 Lakhs INR per annum.
